He took the iron key from around his neck and pressed it into my hands “destroy the book, do you understand?”
The statue of the Virgin Mary had been decapitated
Dismembered along the church wall, figures mutilated.

My life is now in shadow. Everywhere I go I sense that strangers are lurking, following me. I hear noises at night, birds come crashing into my window. My life is now in shadow.

As I read on, my eyes grow wider and wider - my heart beats faster. What has been seen cannot be unseen.

My dreams are plagued by unspeakable terrors.
So much that I dread going to sleep.
I have taken to opium to dull my terrors. To whorehouses to avoid the loneliness of my bed.

My life is now in shadow. I fear less for my mind and body than for my soul. Which is wrought upon by the demons whose words I dared to read. My life is now in shadow.

My life is now in shadow. Everywhere I go I sense that strangers are lurking, following me. Animal carcasses, burned to death, have been left on my doorstep. My life is now in shadow.
