Across grey waters, where the river meets the sea
There in the sandy beach, a brand new cross stands
With a hand nailed to each end, of the wooden plank
Pale as the colourless sky, his body still hangs
‘Hath not the potter power over the clay?’
At his feet the tide has left, a pile of shells and weed
Another offering to the dead, that no one will need
No crown of thorns for this martyr of the day
Just a carving on his head, an axe with double blade
‘Hath not the potter power over the clay?’
And while vultures, crows and gulls are feasting on his flesh
The sun is slowly rising up to reveal all this mess
Who will be the very first with the discovery
To one of Liverpool’s most horrid crime scenery

She carries the burden, she’s burdened with guilt
He lost both his brother and mother, blood spilled
Spending their whole lives, drowning in regret
Avoiding real closure and a chance to reset
Praying and screaming and teaching and drinking. All along. Refuse to move on. All along. Refuse to give up.
She jumped when she found out and drove miles away
To check out the music, her oddness to portray
He opened up his dark embrace and welcome this gift
Someone who knows all about his NDE drift
Praying and screaming and teaching and drinking. All along. Refuse to move on. All along. Refuse to give up.
Common purpose they did find because of a corpse
And as the time went by, they found problems of all sorts
Travelled all around the country and even abroad
To end up risking both their lives for nobody’s god
Praying and screaming and teaching and drinking. All along. Refuse to move on. All along. Refuse to give up.

St Wilfrid’s stands lonely at the edge of Rimrose Valley
A few miles outside of town, the perfect spot for them
They’re just so young and innocent, don’t know what to do
And screaming when they see her lifeless body there too
The woman’s body slumped against the baptismal font
Just sitting there with both her legs splayed like a rag doll
On her forehead was the shape of an inverted axe
Neatly carved in blood, the marking was fresh and black
But the blood had run down her face, completely red
Her open abdomen with her entrails on church steps
Their bulbous masses dwarfing, the size of her body
And there behind her on a board, a message so bloody
The saddest part of all is one nobody would expect
The two knife wounds that evidently our victim wrecked
One was to end her life, to disembowel with a knife
The other was a C cut to save the newborn’s life

It was late afternoon and the sky was descending
The tide was coming in, and darkness never ending
In a dim basement under a house, no windows and no light
A baby lies in a Moses basket, crying throughout the night
She woke up in a familiar place, not feeling well at all
Been drugged and carried to this room, against her will after all
Her ankle cuffed to a heating pipe, their prisoner - no doubt
Light-headed and still petrified, she’s looking for a way out
He came to her rescue, he drove to the middle of the M6
But on his way to the basement, he fell for Clancy’s tricks
He felt a sudden stabbing pain in his neck, and everything went dark
Tumbling down the stairs, unconscious
